In May of 1970, the event which increased Americans mistrust of their government was the killing of four students at Kent State University.

On may 4th, 1970, the Kent State shootings of unarmed college students occurred. The culprits who claimed the lives of these students were members of the Ohio National Guard at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, during a mass upheaval and protest against the bombing of Cambodia perpetrated by the United States military forces.
