In order to find the distance between two points, we may use the concept of the Pythagorean Theorem but to simplify things out, we may use the distance formula between two points:
[tex]d= \sqrt{( x_{2}-x_1)^2 + (y_2-y_1)^2 } [/tex]
Now, let us just substitute values:
[tex]d= \sqrt{( 12-8)^2 + (11-8)^2 } [/tex]
[tex]d= \sqrt{16+9} [/tex]
[tex]d=5[/tex]

So the distance between the points (8,8) and (12,11) is, they are 5 units apart.
