Why do you believe in somethings and not others?

Some things I believe in might have come from my religion. If I was, say Catholic, I would believe in different things than people who are Baptist. Some things I believe in comes from my parents. Since your parents teach you how to live based on what they've learned, you might believe that to live you must have a very good paying job. Some other people may think that to live you just need to sustain yourself. These are just some reasons why I would believe in some things and not others.

Some things are believed in due to how we are raised. Sometime, we get taught about something and automatically believe it. It could also be religion. You ought be raised in a religious home. Maybe not. Sometimes trust is a factor in our relationships with others. If a person is known for not telling the truth when needed, that might affect the was we think when they try to tel us things. Or, you could catch them in a situation where they lied.
