So, when the Spanish arrived from Europe (to the East of the Americas), emperor Moctezuma and his priests believed that they were Quetzatcoatl´s people. This belief helped the Spanish gain the trust of Moctezuma and his court and even enter Tenochtitlán , the splendid Aztec capital. It proved to be a fatal mistake.
