Wealth from the oil industry allowed Dubai to create impressive buildings, resorts, and artificial islands. This attracted a population of 1 million people. This fast growth has caused issues for the city because environmental concerns were not fully considered as construction occurred. The greatest problems in Dubai are related to the city’s water resources. Water pollution is a concern because of the lack of waste treatment options. Sewage and industrial waste have been dumped into water sources. Also of concern is the limited supply of freshwater. With Dubai’s large population, desalination processes have become necessary to provide people with drinking water.
