In research, a cross-sectional study refers to statistical and demographic study that analyzes and collects data from a diverse population at a specific point of time. This type of study generally takes a population that share many variables, except for one that is relevant to the study. One of the different variables that is used to identify the different subjects of the population is age. For example, in a cross-sectional study of intelligence, a certain population would be taken at a certain point of time and the differences in adult intelligence would be measured by comparing people of different ages with one another.
