Answer:

Our elders say that before, from within the family, children were instilled respect for the elderly, solidarity with neighbors, hospitality with those who arrive, determination, honesty ...   What happened to all this? Where did we lose it?

Why do we now neglect the old? Why don't we respect the ranks?   Why do we consent to the bribe? Why do we take the wallet out of an injured person? Why do we chant songs with infamous lyrics that denigrate women? Why do we applaud a couple of children dancing inappropriately?

The fast-paced pace of our lives may not allow us to notice the changes that society experiences in terms of values.

Well, on Friday night, it was held in Casa de Arte de Sosúa, province of Puerto Plata, the launching of the youth novel “The Adventure of Diego and Roko” by the Spanish writer Óscar Zazo, based in the Dominican Republic since More than two decades.

The work recounts the adventure of Diego, a 15-year-old boy and his dog Roko, a German shepherd of two, protagonists of an edifying but tragic journey, since the plane on which they return home suffers an accident in the mountains of Haiti, so survival becomes the primary element of the story.

Santillana edits this work and distributes it within the “Loqueleo” collection for this 2017-2018 school year. According to the prestigious publisher, this story sparked his interest in the values he brings to younger readers. Determination, solidarity or family are co-protagonists of the novel. Another of the strengths indicated is to involve favorably in the same narrative three Caribbean countries: Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

According to Zazo, this novel was written without any editorial aspiration, since he created it as a gift for his son Diego on his 16th birthday (present in the room, although this time without Roko) with the elements that motivate the young man. That is why he recognizes   that the experiences described in the narrative constitute a survival manual and at the same time an ode to adventure, but also to tenderness,   family roots and nature.

We predict the success of the editorial project, since Santillana works primarily with schools that are looking for works that, in addition to instructing students, motivate and entertain them. And this seems to meet these requirements.

The evening began at 7:00 pm, and after a masterful presentation of the work by the writer Omar Messón, taking a tour of the history of this subgenre, the author himself commented on some facets of his creation highlighting his commitment to the positive aspects of the human being, reading   below some fragments that dazzled those present. The event was enlivened by the Peruvian musician Juan Guivin who, along with his percussionist, played some exquisite themes that adorned the act. Finally, a cocktail was offered to the audience that spoke with the author, first to autograph the books acquired and then for photos and group talk, until they were diluted once the event was over.

In other times, moral principles might be essential for the survival of a people in the midst of precariousness. Could it be that the fact of having improved somewhat the standard of living, causes to cling precisely the "anti values" that are so affecting our society?

Let us celebrate, therefore,   that an author, even through fiction, is committed to recovering them.
