What short story were you assigned? While you may not have seen intentional foreshadowing, the author may have had some lines in the beginning that somewhat hinted at the ending. Was there something in the description at the beginning that you could tie into the ending? (Did the main character wear all black at the start of the story as an outfit choice and then have to go to a funeral?) Try to read the short story paragraph by paragraph -- unless the story was incredibly basic with no description or dialogue, there's probably something that you'll be able to spin.
