(1) One of the most important elements of the college application today is the essay that accompanies it. (2) It seems obvious, but it is crucial that the applicant read the prompt carefully in order to answer all parts of it adequately. (3) Oftentimes, students will read the prompt too quickly and fail to address it properly. (4) The essay prompts are usually deliberately vague so that students have to really dig into their knowledge base in order to write an exceptional essay. (5) Students who are particularly well read tend to write better essays, as they generally have a wider knowledge base than students who do not read as much. (6) With the application essay, it is very important that a student shows individual accomplishments and personal anecdotes to illustrate their points well.
