  • Frederick Douglas is a well-known African American thinker, abolitionist and speaker. In his celebrated memoir Narrative of Frederick Douglas, an American slave of 1845, he championed the rights of African-American slaves and was one of the leaders of the anti-slavery movement.
  • At one point in his life, he also worked as an adviser to Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War in America, later becoming the first African-American to hold official political office.
