Answer:
Once a stop codon is recognized the so formed protein molecule will bind to one molecule of water in place of tRNA.
Explanation:
During the termination phase of translation when the ribosome recognizes any one of the 3 stop codons such as UAA,UAG and UGA at that time the polypeptide that is formed will get no tRNA to bind.
As a result instead of tRNA a water molecule binds with the growing polypeptide thus tRNA molecule get detached from the polypeptide, the polypeptide is released from the translation machinery by the activity of various protein called release factors.
Then the mRNA and two subunits of ribosome are also released from the translation machinery.
With the recognition of the stop codon, the protein molecule formed will combine with the molecule of water in place of tRNA.
What is a stop codon?
A codon or the nucleotide triplet within the messenger RNA, which signals the end of the process of translation of the current protein is termed as a stop codon. During the end of translation, that is, when any of the three stop codons like UAG, UAA and UGA get recognized by the ribosome, the polypeptide produced will receive no tRNA to combine.
As a consequence in place of tRNA, the molecule of water combines with the developing polypeptide, signaling the detachment of the tRNA molecule from the polypeptide. The discharging of the polypeptide from the process of translation takes place by the activity of different proteins known as release factors.
Thus, the protein molecule binds with the molecule of water in place of tRNA.
