Positive sanction:

  • An action that results in a 'particular kind of behavior' is known to be a positive sanction.

Negative sanction:

  • An action of punishment or threat of 'punishment is used as a means to enforce conformity' is known to be a negative sanction.

The common point:

  • Neither positive nor negative sanction works if people by themselves are not sure whether they should be rewarded or punished for a particular behavior. So, there is no common line between Negative and Positive sanction.

The main difference between a positive sanction and a negative sanction is that positive sanction is good whereas negative sanction is bad for a country or a group of people.

The gains of positive sanction is rewards that is given due to doing good deeds or behaviour whereas the gains of negative sanction is punishment that were given due to their bad deeds so we can conclude that Positive sanction results in reward whereas negative sanction results in punishment.
