In 1890 the formation of the NAWSA (National American Woman Suffrage Association)  constituted by middle class women volunteers, activists, participants in local civic and charity organizations, members of women’s clubs and professional societies and temperance advocates. The NAWSA acquired the support of women activists in organizations such as: Women’s Trade Union League, the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union, and the National Consumers League; This contributed greatly expanding the economic opportunities of women in this time.

Actions that union leaders took to  expand economic opportunities for women in the late 1800s:

During the time period of 1800s, there was a change in the position of women in the society of the United States which led to improve their conditions and brought them a little closer to the position of equality with that of men in the society.

During this period, there were movements like educating women so that they would get aware of their surroundings, they were allowed to work in factories, in coal mines or for domestic services with which they could earn money and become independent. Women were also allowed to take part in abolition movement.
