there are 3 times as many boys as girls. If there are 24 more boys than girls, how many children are there?

How would I put this into a bar diagram? I can do it with algebra but I am having trouble drawing a bar diagram to help represent this problem.

Answer:

There are 48 students.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

there are 3 times as many boys as girls.

So, the ratio between boys and girls = 3 : 1

Let boys = 3x girls = x,

Where,

x is any positive real number,

So, the total students = 3x + x = 4x

Difference in boys and girls = 3x - x = 2x

According to the question,

2x = 24

⇒ x = 12

Hence, the total students = 4(12) = 48

By the below diagram :

Each box represents one student,

∵ Difference in boys and girls = 2 box

If 2 box = 24 students

1 box = 12  students

⇒ 4 box = 48 students.
