The body of water found at number 4 on the map above is the Lake Titicaca.

Lake Titicaca is the largest freshwater lake in South America and the tallest lake in the world. Titicaca, one of the less than 20 ancient lakes on Earth, is believed to be millions of years old. Lake Titicaca is 3,810 meters above sea level, between Peru in the west and Bolivia in the east.

It pumps more than 300 liters of water per second into Lake Titicaca. The mixture of sewage, chemicals, and heavy metals fuels the growth of life-threatening harmful algae. "This kind of algae grows naturally because of the number of nutrients in this place," said biologist Heyday Montecinos.
