The war happened between 1754 and 1763, and while in America it was called the French and Indian War, in Europe it was known as the Seven Years War. They competed for the trading routes and the lands offered near the Ohio River, especially between the French and British border.

Although at the end of the war the British King issued a proclamation that reserved all lands west of the Appalachians for the First Nations, this was not kept, and British settlers moved to Indian lands without stop.
