trophic levels are to show how the energy flows from one to another and who eats what.

  • First trophic level are the plants and algae which are the producers and gives off energy.
  • Second trophic level is where the herbivores eat the plants as energy is being transferred into them, also known as primary consumers.
  • Third trophic level is where the carnivores eat the herbivores and energy flows to them, also known as Secondary consumers.
  • Fourth trophic level: The carnivores that eat other carnivores are called Tertiary consumers, and are on top of the Trophic levels because nothing eats them and are the last to get the energy transferred to them.
