Interphase is composed of a few other different sub-phases, but the basic point is that the cell ends up duplicating it's DNA and organelles and growing. Cells need to grow and prepare itself during interphase to make sure that they don't just get smaller and smaller.
INTERPHASE:
Interphase is regarded as the resting phase of the cell cycle because it occurs between two successive cell divisions.
It is the phase where the cell increases in content (growth), replicates its DNA and prepares itself generally for the next cell division.
The interphase consists of G1, G2, and S phases.
Therefore, cells need to grow and prepare itself during interphase to make sure that they don't just get smaller and smaller.
