In 2040 people will no longer watch video on television or computers or even on phones. In 2040, people will have a wireless neural adapter that stimulates the optic nerve and bypasses the eyes entirely. Similar to the cochlear implants we have today, this ocular implant will revolutionize the way in which we experience video because it will be more like experiencing fully immersed virtual reality than the traditional video we are currently watching on external devices. This invention will operate without wires or connections, using an advanced form of wireless wifi technology.

The user will interact with the ocular implant by giving spoken commands in a way that is similar to how we currently interact with modern digital assistants like Siri on Apple devices or Alexa on Amazon devices. For an extra charge, users can select the premium model device that operates solely by thinking the command. The reason for the extra cost is because there is more technological overhead associated with having a device that simply senses your thoughts you are thinking rather than listening for a spoken command.

We currently have cameras that shoot digital video in 360 degrees, providing a view of the surrounding environment in a complete circle. I expect in 2040, this kind of technology will be far more advanced and early adopters of that time period will make the most of 360 degree video that is the next best thing to being there.

Another exciting feature of the new ocular nerve video device is having the ability to record in DVR style one's own thoughts and dreams. These can be saved to a file and written into the brain's digital archiving system. From there, these original thoughts and dreams can be wirelessly transferred to other people who have a similar, compatible system implanted into their brains. Imagine what it would be like to see and feel the dreams of other people you care about.

Speaking of which, this system is so powerful and flexible that it has the ability to record the thoughts and dreams of any type of mammal, not just humans. Have you ever had a dog or cat start dreaming and wondered what they are dreaming about? With my new ocular video system, this question will be answered once and for all. We will finally get to see firsthand the dreamed about chasing that squirrel across the yard. After just a few weeks of using this system, we will unlock the mysteries of what goes on in feline and canine brains once and for all.

Of course, it would not be digital video without using advertising to pay the bills. Even though 20 more years have passed, we will still have advertisements in our ocular video stream. But just like today, resourceful hackers will find ways to circumvent the advertising system.

One of the most powerful and useful features of this system will be the ability to share your ocular system with another user. With realtime video feed sharing, one person will be able to assume the point of view of another person and see what they see in real time. This has enormous implications for helping the visually impaired. A blind person could gain their sight again by sharing another person's eyes.

In 2040 there won't be any reason to go to movies and films anymore. Everything in the world of film and video will be available on demand, even brand new theatrical releases. I think it will be exciting times when we finally get these ocular video systems.
