I thought it was because Britain decided to withdraw from the government of south africa and gave it to the white residents of south africa. it was declared a republic and they adopted the second constitution which took away the rights of blacks.

South Africa's independence in 1910 did not translate to freedom and equality because political independence operates on a different plane from economic freedom and nationalistic equality.

  • Freedom and equality have to be worked out with sweat and tears in economic and social arenas, not political. No nation has ever gained freedom or equality by wrestling power from imperialists (whether based at home or foreign); the latter can only grant political independence.

  • For South Africa, Britain granted her political independence or sovereignty and handed over territorial rule to the whites. The whites decided to administer South Africa for the benefit of the white population.

  • When the whites adopted Apartheid, they segregated the black population from the white supremacists, creating a lack of national cohesion.

Thus, South Africa (especially the blacks) and other African nations cannot enjoy freedom and equality until they optimize their intellectual capability to embrace industrial and developmental nationalism that create self-reliance and non-conformity.
