Oliver’s room is 3 yards wide. The perimeter of the room is 14 yards. What is the area of Oliver’s room?

Respuesta :

well we need to remember that area is length times width.
A = L x W
so the problem tells us that its 3 yards wide. And the perimeter is 14 yards.
but the formula for perimeter is all of the sides added up. Here's a picture:)

     ____3____
    |                  |
    |                  |
 x |                  |  x
    |                  |
    |                  |
    *************
             3
since we dont know what the sides are we are going to put x there for now
anyways where were we? oh yes perimeter!
so taking all of the sides and adding them up would be our perimeter or 14 yards. Here's what it would look like

3 + 3 + x + x = 14    lets subtract the 3's from 14
14 - 3 - 3 = 8
now we know that there are two x's so lets divide the 8 by 2
8/2 = 4
hey look we have our length!
so since the question is asking for area
and we already know that Area = length x width
lets plug in our answers
length = 4
width = 3
4 x 3 = 12
our area is 12 yards²
have a good one:)

:D bye

The length of olivers room is 4 yards so
3x4 equals 12. A=12
