This implies that;

AE=EC

$4x = 5y - 2$

$4x - 5y = - 2...(1)$

Also, DE=EB;

$2x = y + 14$

$y =2x - 14...(2)$

Put equation (2) in (1).

$4x - 5(2x - 14) = - 2$

Expand;

$4x - 10x + 70 = - 2$

$- 6x = - 72$

$x = 12$

Put x=2, into equation (2).

$y = 2(12) - 14$

$y = 10$
