To be honest, this is a pretty hard and controversial question since I am a christian myself.
The only answer I've known is that he was always there because that's where the Bible starts (not to get you a bible lesson, but read Genesis 1:1)

It is kinda hard to answer this question because it does not have an actual answer. I was always told this growing up because I'm Christian
