a. Draw the magnetic field lines between the two ends of the magnets. Write 2 - 3 sentences describing the direction of the magnetic force between the magnets and identifying the two electric point charges that have an electric field between them that resembles this magnetic field. (first image)

b. Calculate the total resistance of the circuit below. (second image)

c. In the circuit diagram above, meters 1 and 2 are connected as shown. Write 2 - 3 sentences identifying each type of meter and what it measures for the 8 Ω resistor.

d. In the circuit diagram above, predict which resistors will stop working (if any) when the switch is opened. Write 2 - 3 sentences explaining your reasoning.

PART A)

Magnetic field lines between poles of magnet is always from North pole to south pole

It start from north pole and ends at south pole

This is similar to the electric field lines of positive and negative charge

If north pole is replaced by positive charge and south pole is replaced by negative charge then electric field lines will start from positive charge and end at negative charge in same way.

PART B)

Here two resistances are in parallel

so equivalent resistance is given as

[tex]\frac{1}{R} = \frac{1}{R_1} + \frac{1}{R_2}[/tex]

[tex]\frac{1}{R} = \frac{1}{4} + \frac{1}{8}[/tex]

[tex]R = \frac{8}{3} ohm[/tex]

PART C)

here meter 1 is connected in series with the 8 ohm resistance

This meter is used to find the electric current flowing in this resistance

Meter 2 is connected in parallel across 8 ohm resistance

so here this meter is used to find the potential difference across 8 ohm resistance.

PART D)

If key is opened then we can see that the position of key will affect working of both resistors

here we can see that current in both resistors are flowing through the same key so both resistors will stop work as soon as we will open the key

Answer:

a) the magnetic field lines are seen in the attached figure.

b) Resistance = 24 Ω

Explanation:

a) the direction of the attraction force is shown active between the two poles of the magnet. The net charge between the positive and negative charges will have the same configuration.

b) the total resistance of the circuit is equal to:

Resistance = 8+16=24 Ω

c) line 1 is an ammeter.

line 2 is a voltmeter.

line 2 is parallel to the resistance of 8 Ω

d) When the switch is opened, current will not flow in the circuit. in this way, the two resistors will work.
