The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was created after World War II with the idea of creating collective security for the member nations. This meant that the nations involved would become political, economic, and military allies against communism (especially in Europe and Asia). This collective security ensured that no nation would fight against communism on its own. Rather, they would have the support of other democratic and capitalist nations all over the world.
