The DNA strands are antiparallel. This means that could never happen that both 5' and 3' at one end. The DNA strand has two strands. Each strand has phosphoryl end (5') and carboxyl end (3'). The strands run in the opposite direction so that 5' end of the one strand pairs with 3' end of the other strand. This phenomenon is important for DNA replication where strands are replicated separately.
