In the Odyssey, why is Penelope initially "aloof" and hard-hearted after she learns that the beggar is Odysseus in disguise?
a. She is confused because she has already buried the body of her husband.
b. She is wary of strangers who might falsely claim to be her husband.
c. She is angry at her husband for being gone so long.
d. She is afraid that her husband will be angry at her for remarrying.

Respuesta :

I choose letter b. She is wary of strangers who might falsely claim to be her husband. Her fidelity to Odysseus was such that she would not let her guard down.  She to keep the suitors at bay as best as she could which is proof her love for her husband.  It was only during the question of the bed that she was finally convinced her husband had returned.
