Please help explain...

Use the remainder theorem to find the remainder resulting from the division:

(x^2 + 5x - 1) ÷ (x - 1)

Respuesta :

The remainder theorem says that dividing a polynomial [tex]p(x)[/tex] by [tex]x-c[/tex] leaves a remainder equal to [tex]p(c)[/tex].

Here we have [tex]p(x)=x^2+5x-1[/tex] and [tex]c=1[/tex]. So the remainder would be

[tex]p(1)=1^2+5(1)-1=5[/tex]
