- If the strand of DNA with the sequence TGA, is mutated to GGA it is a missense mutation.
- The DNA sequence TGA will have the codon ACU in the RNA and, GGA will have the codon CCU.
- The codon ACU codes for threonine, and the codon CCU codes for proline.
- Thus, the mutation is causing the formation of a different protein (proline instead of threonine) therefore, the mutation is a missense mutation.
