If you were in a boat and you were moving over water waves with smaller and smaller wavelengths. The wavelength is getting smaller and smaller. Here, the waves transport energy over long distances. But water itself does not do.
The energy transported is directly proportional to the square of the amplitude of the wave. But the energy transported is inversely proportional to the wavelengths. In this way, the wavelengths of the waves seems to be appeared smaller and smaller.
