I have to write an narrative essay on a kid going into a book. I wanted to write him going back in the past. How do I even begin?

If you really want to impress your teachers you need a hook, you need to catch the readers attention. But, while explaining the background before the story like introducing the characters, places, etc. So try something like this...

My name is Troy, and I live in a small town in Massachusetts with my Dad. My mom disappeared and no one ever found out where she went. We never thought we would see her again. My whole life changed when I found a small pin with my moms name on it in my basement it had a big jewel on it that somehow reminded me of a clock. Little did I know, that small pin would help me find my mom...through time.
