What did Southern slave owners do in reaction to the Emancipation Proclamation?

A) They immediately freed all slaves.

B) They ignored the proclamation and continued to own slaves.

C) They asked to be readmitted to the Union.

D) They sent their slaves to Africa.

Respuesta :

Oh, the answer is B. They ignored the Proclamation and continued to own slaves. When you think about it, the Confederacy and the Union were at war. With the Emancipation Proclamation, Lincoln was essentially declaring the slaves in the Confederacy free. He really didn't have the power to follow through on his decision. So, essentially, Southern slave owners were just like "we don't have to do what you say. We're our own country". So they just ignored him.
