The reason why grievances were included in the declaration of independence is that trade focused on generating income for the Crown only. The colonies thought it wasn´t right that the British imposed taxes on them. In the process of declaring a new independent nation, the Declaration of Independence levies grievances against King George III of England like:
- Violations against English constitutional law
- Cutting off colonial trade with other countries
- Altering the structure of colonial government
Thomas Jefferson believed that the King had exceeded his constitutional authority. So the colonies had the right to form a new government.
The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson in June of 1776.
