Thw degree of wettnesss could be used to classify the mountain side as being windward or leeward. Hence, the side which most of the precipitation falls is the windward side while that which experiences very little precipitation is the leeward side.
- The upwind direction is also called the windward side, which is the direction which is hit by the prevailing wind, hence, experiencing most of the precipitation.
- The opposite side of mountain is the leeward side which is the downwind side described the direction backing the direction of the wind. Hence experiencing lesser precipitation.
Therefore, the windward and leeward side describes the part of the mountain with most and little precipitation respectively.
