Hum is a short story written by Naomi Shihab Nye. It tells the story about a Palestine boy who moved to America, how he is adapting to it, and thought he was doing a fine job but the 9.11 broke out. Everybody started to see Sami as another terrorist. One day, when he was having a hard time, he found a letter that’s sent to Mr.Hug. After giving him the letter, they start a conversation.
Sami comes back home with a new job: reading the newspaper for Mr.Hugh, who’s blind.
In a way, Mr. Hugh and his dog Tum Tum, who help Mr.Hugh’s daily life, helped Sami when he needed it the most. Thanks to that job with Mr. Hugh, Sami started a new club, a dialogue club. There, he gets some healing from his club members.
