He felt that the Court’s decision touaght the students wrong lesson because its leading them into a mere society where they would be less educated on their rights as a citizen

The case Hazelwood School District et Al v. Kuhlmeier et Al is a case that was decided by the US Supreme Court about the First Amendment. 

The students of this school sued the school after a teacher and the school principal removed two articles from the school student paper. 

The Supreme Court decided that the school did not violate the First Amendment because the school newspaper did not reach the public and was meant for academic purposes and the school had ground to edit and curate it.

But Justice Brennan had a dissident opinion and said that the students have rights to free speech and that this right does not cease to exist once they are inside the school and because of that, the decision taught the students the wrong lesson.
