What was the goal of the activist involved in the freedom summer

Respuesta :

Hello!

Freedom Summer, also known as the Mississippi Summer Project, was a volunteer campaign led by the Council of Federation Organizations during the year 1964. Freedom Summer's objective was to register African- American voters since they could not vote due to barriers to voter registration. Also, this project had as an objective to set up Freedom Schools, Freedom Houses, and community centers to help black population.

I hope this helps you :)

The Freedom Summer Movement started in 1964 in Mississippi, during the time of The American Civil War. The main goal of this project was to register more black voters in the state of Mississippi and denounce the discrimination and violent attacks they were suffering. This movement was promoted by the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and other civil rights organizations. They were helped by white volunteers who were violently attacked in some cases. Finally, after the Freedom summer and other manifestations in different places; Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act in 1965 to protect and help black voters.
