Constantinople was the captial of the Byzantine Empire, Constantinople is now know and called Instanbul. Constantinople is on the Asia Minor next to the Black Sea. The Ottoman Turks viewed Constantinople as being strategically important becasue it was a crossroads between Europe and Asia.
