• She encourage President Lincoln to ensure that African  American soldiers are treated fairly.

Hannah Johnson wrote this letter to him to stop Southern soldiers from selling captured African American soldiers.  She wanted all African Americans to have fair treatment.  The Emancipation Proclamation took effect in 1863.
