You never take off safety equipment while in lab, if something breaks, you always want to dispose of it properly and safely then find a replacement, normally, you keep chemcals separate from all other waste, never touch anything in a lab directly, and you always turn off the Bunsen burner before leaving the work station as a fire could start.
