The student argued that the school violated her 4th amendment rights.

The 4th amendment of the US Constitution protects against illegal search and seizures. This means that the government/law enforcement agencies must have a warrant in order to search someone's personal property.

However, the Supreme Court ruled against TLO. The Supreme Court ruled that school administrators have more flexibility to search bags if there is reasonable suspicion present.
