While living under the property of Mr. Freeland, Douglass starts to educate the slaves that lived with him and. This was an act that was strictly prohibited. Throughout his teachings, he starts to convince them that freedom is the path they should pursue. He eventually elaborates a plan in for him and the slaves who follow him to escape. However, during the day of the supposed escape, he is betrayed by one of the slaves and is put in jail along with other slaves. At the end of Easter Holidays, all of the slaves are put out of jail except him, as he was thought to be the leader of the escape intent.
