The United States district courts are the general trial courts of the US federal court system. Both civil and criminal cases are filed in the district court. There are 94 such courts including at least one district in each state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The 94 U.S. judicial districts are organized into 12 regional circuits, each of which has a United States court of appeals.

This is so because of demographics in that district changes. It is referred to as the political division of the country. There is a total of 50 states.
