W.E.B. DuBois believed desegregation could only occur with education and fighting for civil rights. On the other hand, Booker T. Washington believed that financial independency and integrating into society through practical work skills would show them as productive members of society. Washington believed that social and political equality could be addressed at a later date.

W.E.B. DuBois had a different perspective on how should desegregation should occur compared to Booker T. Washington.  W.E. B. DuBois believed it was important to gain equality and academic education while Booker T. Washington believed that education for real life jobs was more important, he did not believe that black people should ask for equality from the whites.
