Mitosis occurs in eukaryotes and not prokaryotes. Eukaryotes contain organelles while prokaryotes do not, causing prokaryotic cellular division to be different. Binary fission is the cellular division used by prokaryotic cells. The end outcome is the same, just different processes are used.
