- [tex]\frac{17}{3}[/tex]

note that 8 + [tex]\frac{1}{2}[/tex] = 8 [tex]\frac{1}{2}[/tex] = [tex]\frac{17}{2}[/tex]

then multiplying the values gives

- [tex]\frac{2}{3}[/tex] × [tex]\frac{17}{2}[/tex] ( cancelling the 2' s )

= - [tex]\frac{17}{3}[/tex] = - 5 [tex]\frac{2}{3}[/tex]
