Please help: I have a square pool with a tree in each corner, how can i double the area of the pool without moving the trees whilst keeping the shape of the pool a square.

Answer:

Make the larger pool so that each tree is at the center of each side.

Step-by-step explanation:

For the area to be twice as great, the side lengths need to be multiplied by the square root of the area scale factor: √2. A square oriented 45° from the current square, with the trees at the midpoint of each side, will have side lengths increased by that factor.
