In “Stone Soup” Barbara Kingsolver gives her opinion against people who only see "standard" families as the correct ones. For Kingsolver, there is an excessive criticism for divorce. She is against the belif that divorce is destroying the concept of the "ideal family". The same happens with single parents, homosexual couples and other practices. She says that all these families should be considered as equals in society.
