For example, one of the risk factor of heart disease is smoking. Smoking is considered as a controllable risk factor because we can do something about it. To avoid or reduce the risk factor of heart disease from smoking, someone can quit smoking, exercise regularly, manage a healthy weight, and eat healthily.

• Uncontrollable risk factors  

Differ to controllable risk factors, uncontrollable risk factors are everything which we cannot do something about it in order to reduce or avoid it. Uncontrollable risk factors usually come from genetics, such as hereditary. When it comes to genetics, we cannot do something to change is because it is given naturally as we birth. Other examples of uncontrollable risk factors besides hereditary are age, gender, race.  

African Americans tend to have high blood pressure than other races. Men tend to more develop heart disease than women. While the elderly is more likely developing heart disease than the young generation.
