Gerald’s bucket lost a total of 8/5 in. of water when the hot summer sun came out. He estimated
that he lost 2/15 in. an hour. How many hours did it take Gerald to lost 8/5 in. of water?

Respuesta :

Answer-

It took 12 hours to lose the water.

Solution-

The total amount of water lost from Gerald’s bucket is  [tex]\dfrac{8}{5}[/tex]  inch

The amount of water he estimated  to be lost in a single hour is  [tex]\dfrac{2}{15}[/tex]  inch

Dividing the total water lost by water lost per hour, we can get the the total number of hours it took to lose the water.

[tex]\text{Number of hours}=\dfrac{\dfrac{8}{5}}{\dfrac{2}{15}}=\dfrac{8}{5}\times \dfrac{15}{2}=4\times 3=12[/tex]

Therefore, it took 12 hours to lose the water.
