Solution-

The total amount of water lost from Gerald’s bucket is  $\dfrac{8}{5}$  inch

The amount of water he estimated  to be lost in a single hour is  $\dfrac{2}{15}$  inch

Dividing the total water lost by water lost per hour, we can get the the total number of hours it took to lose the water.

$\text{Number of hours}=\dfrac{\dfrac{8}{5}}{\dfrac{2}{15}}=\dfrac{8}{5}\times \dfrac{15}{2}=4\times 3=12$

Therefore, it took 12 hours to lose the water.
